Mother & Baby Club
Tuesday's 10am to 12pmThe Mother and Baby club first opened its doors to welcome mothers and their children (up to the age of 3) on a Tuesday morning of 19 years ago. The club opens on a weekly basis from October to June and on a monthly basis in the summer months. It is managed by volunteers who ensure that all those present, enjoy themselves and have fun.
Mothers and their children spend these three hours in the same place and whilst the children enjoy themselves playing and sharing the toys, their mothers chat and share their experiences and tips on do’s and don’ts of bringing up their children. Various talks are also organised with topics related to the upbringing of children and speakers from different walks of life join to share their experience and answer the mothers’ questions. The most recent talks were held by a paediatrician, podologist and dentist. Tea, coffee, sandwiches and snacks are served, whilst mothers keep an eye on their little ones. It’s singing time at 11 am! All join in and sing – some even at the top of their voices, animated nursery rhymes.
Special occasions are also celebrated, including the children’s birthdays. It is so heart-warming to see the little ones blowing off the candles on their cakes whilst the other kids sing passionately “Happy Birthday”! During Christmas time, a short procession is held with the kids dressed up as Angels lead by baby Jesus. Easter, Mother’s Day and Father’s Day are also celebrated, whilst a carnival party (opened to all) is organised for all the young ones to dress up in their costumes.
The club, which is opposite the Ibrag Parish Church opens every Tuesday between 9am and noon. Everyone is welcome at the Mother and Baby Club Ibrag… irrespective of nationality, language and belief.
